Safety Tips for Winter
When taking warfarin you can perform all normal daily activities, but you may be at risk of bleeding if you are injured.
Keep these winter tips in mind:
- Watch for floor mats as you are entering or exiting stores. Retailers often add extra mats in winter.
- Use caution in parking lots; most retailers do a great job of keeping sidewalks free of ice, but parking lots may be overlooked.
- Consider pulling your car to the curb of the store to unload your purchases.
- Even though covered, parking ramps can be slippery. Use caution when exiting your car on parking ramps to avoid slipping and falling.
- Wear boots or shoes with rubber soles or tread for good traction on slippery surfaces.
- When attending formal events, wear the boots! Bring your slick-bottomed dress shoes to change into when you arrive.
- Be aware when getting in and out of cars or buildings as coats with loose belts and ties can get caught in car and building doors,.
