Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How does Home INR Monitoring support Systematic Anticoagulation Management and better patient care?
A: Home INR Monitoring enables suitably selected and properly trained patients to test more frequently at home in between regularly scheduled office visits. More frequent testing as recommended by the FDA for "at risk" patients has been shown to improve Time in Therapeutic Range (TTR) and reduce adverse events (bleeding and clotting).

Q: Are Home INR Monitoring products and related services covered by Medicare?
A: Yes, Medicare now provides coverage for weekly home testing for individuals with mechanical heart valves, chronic Atrial Fibrillation and Deep Vein Thrombosis. Coverage includes the use of the device and testing supplies for qualified individuals who have been properly trained and demonstrated the correct use of the device.

Q: Is Home INR Monitoring covered by Private Insurers?
A: Yes, most private insurance providers also routinely cover individuals for Home INR Monitoring. We have relationships with most insurance providers and a team of dedicated professionals to help determine your insurance coverage.

Q: How are patients trained?
A: Training is a critical component to the Home INR Monitoring program and can be customized to the needs of your practice and patient demographic. Patients can either be trained by Alere™ Home Monitoring certified trainers or trained by your clinic.
