It’s not always easy to find healthy choices to eat while you are on the road. But with a little careful planning, you can enjoy healthy meals no matter where your travel takes you.

Since vitamin K affects with the way warfarin works, it’s important to be mindful of the amount of vitamin k content you are consuming – especially when you are on vacation.

To try to stay consistent with your diet when traveling, order the foods you normally consume and enjoy, but eliminate or reduce the extras you don’t need. For instance, if you order a salad, ask for the dressing on the side. Also, restaurants are usually willing to help with special requests, so don’t hesitate to ask the waiter if a fried dish can be grilled or lightly sautéed instead.

Be curious about the foods you eat. Visit our Vitamin K Finder for a list of common foods and their vitamin K content. Check the food choices you enjoy on the list and typically consume. You can also print out the Vitamin K Finder and take it with you on your trip.

Being on the road doesn’t have to adversely affect your diet. Being prepared is the key to eating healthy. Have a goal for your daily vitamin K intake and devise a meal plan that includes the foods you enjoy. Remember to be consistent in your food choices and portion sizes. As always, speak to your doctor regarding any diet considerations.
