A MR CLEAN substudy found that the initially large benefit of intra-arterial treatment (IAT) for acute ischemic stroke decreases for every hour of reperfusion delay, with the absolute risk difference for a good outcome reduced by 6% per hour of delay. The data implies that patients with acute ischemic stroke should undergo immediate diagnostic workup and IAT in case of intracranial arterial vessel occlusion.
