The 2.3 million patients with atrial fibrillation can benefit from visiting StopAfib.org
StopAfib.org is an online resource dedicated to providing a comprehensive overview of the most common arrhythmia that affects adults, atrial fibrillation (AF). Mellanie True Hills is the founder and CEO of the American Foundation for Women’s Health and web designer of www.StopAfib.org. As an author and an emergency heart surgery survivor herself, Hills is able to provide a straightforward approach to understanding AF and its potential health consequences.
StopAfib.org also features the latest AF information and news stories, a newsletter covering the latest medical innovations, and a services locator to help AF patients identify local electrophysiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, and arrhythmia centers or hospitals. New healthcare providers are added daily, and interested providers can find out more at "List Your Afib Services", next to the U.S. map on the www.StopAfib.org home page. StopAfib.org sponsors the AF online Blog (http://AtrialFibrillationBlog.com), a community forum where new ways to manage and/or eradicate AF are explored.
StopAfib.org is easy to navigate using the simple drop down menu. This menu1 includes links for following topics:
- What is Afib?
- Why is Afib a Problem?
- Can Afib be Managed?
- Can Afib be Cured?
- Patient Stories
- Afib News & Events
- Patient & Caregiver Resources
- Find Afib Services
‘Patient Stories’ bring a human face to AF, an often-asymptomatic heart dysrhythmia. The ‘News & Events’ section samples the most current AF news, including the new Medicare decision to cover home INR testing for patients with AF who take warfarin (Coumadin ®) for stroke prevention. Valuable links to online resources for heart disease and AF can be found in the ‘Patient & Caregiver Resources’ section.
Hills has created a “patient-driven site” that provides practical information for the 2.3 million patients diagnosed with AF. Patients who would like to learn more about AF are encouraged to visit to the www.StopAfib.org website.
StopAfib.org recently received accreditation from the Health on the Net Foundation for honoring the eight ethical principles of the HON Code of Conduct. "StopAfib.org is for patients, by patients, and our goal is to help afib patients find solutions and be proactive partners with their healthcare providers," says Hills. "Receiving the HON Code seal along with upcoming site additions will help us be among the most trusted communities for afib patients."1
