According to a national survey, people who self test said they are more confident, feel more in control, and generally don't worry about their INR as much as those who do not test at home.

This new standard of care has been supported by a “black box warning” issued on October 6, 2006. The new black box warning alerts professionals and consumers to the potential for major or fatal bleeding in high-risk patients. The warning establishes that patients on long-term warfarin therapy are included with those at risk, and should consider more frequent testing. In response, many health care providers are revising coverage policies for their plan members to include more frequent testing for warfarin patients, and self testing plays a big part in that.
